Protected Culture Scientist for Hybrid Wheat (D/F/M) - Toury/Boissay (28)
As a Protected Culture Scientist for Hybrid Wheat, you will play a crucial role in innovating and implementing seed production processes and trait integration in protected culture, leveraging your expertise in wheat agronomy, physiology, and protected culture management.
This role is essential to ensure the successful production of high-quality hybrid seeds in protected environments, with significant contributions to doubled haploid (DH) processes. Broader contributions to hybrid wheat (HW) and oilseed rape (OSR) seed production streams are expected.

YOUR PROFILE

  • PhD or Master's degree in Agronomy or a related field, with a preference for specialization in wheat production;
  • Proficiency in English and at least an intermediate level of French required;
  • Strong knowledge of wheat agronomy, physiology, protected culture, environmental requirements, and crop management practices;
  • Proven experience in seed production, particularly in protected environments, and familiarity with conversion processes;
  • Desirable knowledge of doubled haploid (DH) processes and their application in hybrid wheat development;
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw actionable conclusions;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in agricultural software and data management tools;
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Innovate in the seed production space in protected culture, partnering with other scientists to achieve breeding goals in a timely manner;
  • Implement and develop hybrid wheat-specific seed production workflows in protected culture systems, ensuring adherence to best practices in agronomy and crop management;
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of wheat physiology to optimize production strategies and enhance crop performance in protected environments;
  • Oversee the implementation of native trait workflows for hybrid wheat, ensuring the integration of beneficial traits into production processes;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance and refine protected culture management techniques, focusing on optimizing seed yield and quality;
  • Provide expertise in doubled haploid (DH) workflows, contributing to the efficiency of hybrid wheat productions;
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate protected culture production data to assess the effectiveness of agronomic practices and formulate data-driven recommendations for improvements;
  • Develop and execute a regular greenhouse schedule to meet operational goals and create opportunities for value-driven initiatives;
  • Manage daily greenhouse activities, including seedling germination and transplanting, pollen collection, floral emasculation, manual pollinations, and plant maintenance;
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality assurance initiatives throughout the seed production workflow;
  • Train and support team members and field technicians on best practices in protected culture management and hybrid wheat production;
  • Engage with regional and global stakeholders to align production efforts with organizational goals and market demands.
